Acts chapter 15:41-18:22 is known as Paul’s second missionary journey. Paul was always ready to share the love of God wherever he went; making disciples for Christ is his priority in life. Timothy had a good reputation as a result of the godly training he had received from his mother and grandmother. Paul mentions Timothy’s mother and grandmother in his letter 2 Timothy 1:5. Timothy’s grandmother and mother were good examples to all mothers and grandmothers. Evidently Timothy’s father, a Greek, was not a believer.

Timothy became one of Paul’s disciples and he was young since Paul addressed him as a young man later. 1Timothy 4:12 says “Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.”

Timothy’s father was a Greek, a Gentile. The marriage of a Jewish woman to a Gentile husband (though some would make a difference) was prohibited as much as the marriage of a Jewish man to a Gentile wife. Deuteronomy 7:3 says “Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons,” New Testament also has similar situations marriage between Christian and unbelievers 2 Corinthians 6:14-17.

A person's relationship with God is more important than his romantic relationships. The way this problem is resolved for those who love each other and desire to be married is for the Christian to share his or her faith with the unbeliever by studying God's Will for our lives. The Bible is clear and other religions like Hindu, Muslims or a Buddhist marries a Christian they are divided at the very heart of their marriage. God wants us to marry for a lifetime.

Paul, known for his uncompromising messages circumcised Timothy. Why? Paul is a preacher for the true gospel salvation by grace alone. He had to circumcise the half-Jewish Timothy so that he could take him into the Jewish synagogues. This was not compromise; it was simple Christian courtesy. It was a mature recognition that social, cultural, and even religious differences should never become more important issues than the simple message of salvation in Christ 1 Corinthians 9:19-23.
